The Road to Performing Arts

It takes courage to pursue a career in the performing arts. These days, there are many ways a person can become involved in the performing arts. It just takes creativity and unlimited ambition to land your dream career in the performing arts.
If you are still in college, then consider applying to the theatrical school or division of your college. Many large Universities host an entirely separate school devoted to the study of performing arts. While you may feel this type of education is a risky investment, in the end it pays to follow your heart. Pursue studies in a field that you will be passionate about in 5, 10, or even 20 years from your collegiate career. In addition, there are many opportunities open to undergraduates in a theatre program that are not open to people trying to make it in the “real world.”
Another idea to further a career in the performing arts is by joining online agencies. Usually, this is much less expensive than trying to hire a personal agent. An online agency may allow you to upload a photograph, video, and biography. This information can then be viewed by television companies and movie companies. Usually a casting agent will contact you directly if he or she likes what they see.
The key to being successful in performing arts is to not shy away from attention and get your name out there. With the internet, effective marketing no longer has to rely on hiring an agent. Instead, you can create videos and content from the comfort of your own home. The more people that view your content and videos, the more chances you have to land your dream career in a film or television series or even on Broadway. Instead of paying thousands of dollars for someone else to market your talents, why not try marketing your talents yourself?
Making an online video with interesting props is a great way to capture the attention of powerful people that may be hiring you. Try including a fire pit and performing a dramatic monologue that uses the fire pit as a cauldron or source of power in an online video. These types of tactics will get people to value your creativity. Creating a weekly video (much like a television mini series) can also be a great way that you capture the attention of your audience.
These are a few ideas to get you started in the performing arts. Remember to go out of your way to include interesting props like fire pits, and you may ultimately star in your dream movie some day!It appears that your web host has disabled all functions for handling remote pages and as a result the BackLinks software will not function on your web page. Street Fighter Moves – Interviews Christopher “Bob” Roberts on Martial Arts Versus Survival Training

Charles – Today’s topic will cover how to help people see the distinct difference between martial arts training and reality-street survival training.  Can you give us, Bob, say, four key differences in these two?
Bob – Yeah, I can do that.
The Number 1 Difference Is – Time To Learn – You go ahead and learn martial arts, and people talk about 5 years, 10 years to get your black belt.  But my problem is, if I train with you today, I want you to be ready to survive a fight tomorrow.  Street self defense and street survival is learning how to defend yourself in a very short amount of time.  We’re not talking about years before you can fight.
Charles – Excellent.
Bob – Now –
The Second Difference Is – The Need For Constant Training – Martial Arts is based on repetition, techniques.  Martial arts is based upon some fitness.  And when a reality-based instructor teaches somebody how to fight in the street, they teach them something that they learn, understand one time, where they don’t need to train on every single day to be able to do this in a year or two.
The Third Difference Is – Safety Equipment In My Opinion Is Not Needed To Train People In Survival Fighting – Full contact training teaches you for example with the mouth piece, not to bite.  With head gear and gloves, it teaches you not to attack the eyes – not to attack the throat.  So, if you see someone doing full contact training where they are training with safety protection, you are particularly teaching your students not to use some of the most effective techniques possible.
The Fourth  Difference Is – Basically Tricks Not Techniques – A good reality-based instructor could teach you the basic concepts to strike somebody in the throat, kick somebody in the knee, head-butt somebody, etc., in a very short amount of time and you will understand it even if you don’t know precisely what to do as in a step 1, step 2, step 3 type of explanation.
With martial arts, they come with complicated techniques, and you take years and months to learn, and if you don’t do them constantly, you forget them.  A reality-based instructor will teach, this is an easy way to hit someone in the nose.  This is an easy way to break some body’s leg.  And that’s it.  And if you understand it, you don’t have to be perfect to get the same effect.
Charles – Wow.  Well, we thank you so much because this definitely puts a new light on the differences in these two concepts.  Thank you so much, Bob.
Bob – Thank you. …

Is Your Child Ready For Martial Arts?

Martial arts are one of the fastest-growing sports in the U.S. Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Kuk Sool Wan, Tai Chi, and mixed martial arts schools are popping up in every city and town. It looks exciting and some of the children in the advertisements are very young. Are the martial arts suitable for young children and how do you know if your child is ready for martial arts classes?
Speaking from the experience as a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, as an assistant instructor, and a parent, I can assure you that martial arts are safe for children as young as 4. The key to success with martial arts at this age is matching the child with the proper program. Many martial art schools have “Mighty Tiger” or “Little Tiger” programs that are geared toward the youngest children. Look for a school that has a program especially designed for children 4-6. There is a reason for this. Children in this age group usually have difficulty with certain gross motor skill like balancing on one foot, bringing hands and arms across the center of the body and back again, and alternating one hand or foot with the other in rapid succession. While these activities may challenge older children and adults, children in the 4-6 age group may not possess the muscle ability to perform them. Classes for these children focus more on body control than kicking techniques. They will learn three basic kicks and a few basic blocks, however they will also learn to focus their mind, body, ears, and eyes on the task at hand. Mighty Tigers will learn to sit still for a short amount of time. Additionally, they will learn to be confident and strong.
Your 4 to 6 year old child is ready for martial arts if they can follow simple instructions and can work in a group setting. It also helps if they can be away from their caregivers for 45 minutes to an hour without severe separation anxiety. Another requirement is that your child should be fully potty trained.
When your child is ready then it is time to select a school. There are many different styles of martial arts, choose one that you think will be fun for your child. One you find a style you like, check out
the schools. Most schools will offer a free trial lesson. This is a good way to see if your child will like this sport. Before signing any contracts, be sure you know about the school’s philosophies and that you know the staff. Check to be sure that all of the instructors, assistant instructors, volunteers and anyone working directly with the children has undergone a recent criminal background check, including fingerprints.
Another point to keep in mind when choosing a school is that there should be at least one master (4th degree black belt or higher) teaching the majority of the classes. Other levels of black belts can teach at times, however the amount of learning that occurs between first degree and fourth degree black belt is incredible. Someone who has achieved master rank is an expert in their martial art and has the wisdom and skill to teach it correctly.
Is your child ready for these arts? Most likely they are. Try out a couple of schools to see which one is the best fit and then enroll them. You will be amazed at how quickly they learn self control and self discipline. Small children will have less temper tantrums and you will see older children focus better on their studies. Martial arts have a place in every young child’s after school activities. Why not see if your child is ready for martial arts.…

Grappling Dummy Techniques for MMA Athletes

Mixed martial arts has literally burst onto the TV screen and it looks like it is here to stay. At my martial arts club the mixed martial arts classes are overrun with people wanting to learn MMA and I constantly have people asking me what can they do at home that will help increase there MMA skills. I tell them to invest in a grappling or throwing dummy. There dummies are designed for MMA athletes to throw, punch, kick and pound without ever hurting a single training partner.
Compared to other combat sports, MMA training is extremely easy to get injured either through a stray elbow, knee or headbutt. Drills such as punching when in knee ride or driving through wildly with a double leg can accidentally injure your opponent so there are times when you have to not punch, kick or throw with as much force as you would really like. While running MMA classes I sometimes get the occasional fighter who cannot control his strikes and so I assign him to using a grappling dummy.
If you are the sort of person who cannot regularly attend training then I highly advise you to purchase a dummy. This way if you ever miss training due to work or family commitments you can still drill your techniques in order to continually improve your MMA skills.
Grappling dummies are designed so that you can drill your MMA techniques without ever having to worry about injuring your opponent. You can perform various ‘ground and pound’ techniques such as strikes from mount, elbows from side control as well as vicious elbows when your on the bottom. Drilling knees and elbow strikes while on your feet is also a great technique you can drill with a grappling dummy.
Grappling dummies are built very well and can be picked up and slammed over and over again which is great if you are looking at practicing take downs against the cage, in a clinch or shooting in straight after a few strikes.
MMA fighters require a high level of fitness and conditioning due to the fact that a fight goes for anything from 3-5 rounds of 3-5 minutes (depending on the fight being amateur or professional). Therefore it is crucial that the fighters have a high level of fitness and adding different dummy techniques can assist in raising your aerobic threshold.
In conclusion grappling dummy’s are a fantastic investment for MMA fighters looking at training one hundred percent without injuring their opponents or for those fighters who cannot always get to training but are keen on practicing their skills in the comfort of their own home…

The Weakness of Brazilian Jujitsu and Sport Fighting for Self-Defense

Anybody who has at least any experience in martial arts or street-fighting can agree that learning how to defend oneself on the ground is ABSOLUTELY needed in order to survive on the streets or in the ring. Oftentimes we fall or can be taken to the ground. Once taken to the ground, the average street fighter will most likely start punching you in the face, or get you into a headlock. What about triangle chokes or arm bars? Not likely… Lets go over some cold hard facts that many Jujitsu and sport fighters may not like, but are the simple truth. I will try to make this short and to the point as possible.
Rape awareness, Child-abductions, and overall self-defense:
If you were teaching your wife self-defense, in order to prevent her from being abducted, which techniques would you teach her? If you were teaching your child techniques in order to keep them from being raped or abducted, which techniques would you tech them? Jujitsu? Boxing?…maybe a little, but not likely.
If someone is trying to force you into a vehicle or put you into a position to be raped or kidnapped, the last thing you want to do is try to take your opponent to the ground. You are actually helping them succeed in their conquest. Also consider that many child-abductors and rapists do not work alone. Many female joggers are often pulled into moving vehicles by 2 or 3 attackers. Even if you did bring one to the ground, the other 2 are going to make you pay.
Or here is another example using fictional characters. “Billy” is a 12 year old boy who is 5’1 and weighs 105 lbs with a Jujitsu Black belt, and expert boxer. A 30 year old man who is 6’1 and 190 pounds approaches the boy and attempts to apprehend the boy and kidnap him. The boy gets the attacker on the ground and sits on his chest and attempts to punch him in the face. The oversized attacker flips the boy over, and simply punches him once in the face. The boy is knocked out cold, and is later abused and kidnapped…
What the boy should have done was attack the kidnapper with several strikes to stun him in vulnerable areas (testicles, eye’s, biting, headbutt) and ran like hell screaming to the top of his lungs! The problem with MMA, Jujitsu, western Boxing, and Kickboxing is their mentality. They teach their students to fight. Plain and simple. To fight until the very end. But, this attitude is very machismo and egotistic way of fighting. From a self-defense aspect, the goal should always be to stun the attacker, and get away. Their are only very few situations that warrant fighting until the attacker is completely knocked out.
Modern Martial arts vs Traditional…
Anytime you get a grappler against any opponent who isn’t skilled in grappling, the Jujitsu man will win 99% of the time in ordinary circumstances. In a kickboxing or MMA environment any traditional martial artist will be most likely embarrassed. But, what will the jujitsu man do if the Karate man pulls out a sword, or a long stick? What will the MMA man do is he meets a knife fighter? The fact is, in traditional martial arts like Kung Fu and Karate, unarmed tactics were only secondary forms of fighting. A man would always rely on his sword or knife before his fists.
If a jujitsu black belt threatened my life and challenged me to a fight, I would not assume a boxers stance. I would simply walk away. Yet if he proceeded to walk towards me, I would simply pull out my Tactical Baton that I ALWAYS carry with me. Thats right, I carry a weapon? But, thats not fair! Why not? This isn’t the UFC or a boxing match. This is my life we are talking about! If my life is on the line, I have no problem using a sword, stick, gun, bitting, heabutting, or hitting the groin of my attacker.
Preparing for an attack against a street fighting, not a MMA fighter…
The fact is, most people don’t train in martial arts. Maybe 10 out of 100. And thats being liberal. Jujitsu men spend hours learning how to defend against armbars, triangles, leg . But, these are techniques that you will almost never see from an untrained street fighter. The average street fighter is going to come at you with aggressive (and sloppy) Boxing, coupled with sloppy wrestling tactics, coupled with a box cutter, coupled with a gun, and he may have a couple of buddies, and he may hit you with a cheap shot from behind. At first, he didn’t sound so dangerous huh? In a street-fighting scenario, you don’t want to have a …
