Is Krav Maga A Martial Art?
While in some ways the moves may look familiar Krav Maga differs from Traditional Martial arts in a number of key areas.
Many traditional martial arts are steeped in ancient traditions, ideas and concepts whose times have long passed. Ideas such has repeated bowing, kneeling, and supplication of e student have no places in the system. It is important to note that it is a modern system built on modern principals and values and as such respect for your training partner instructor and the law are still paramount.
Training focuses on only one objective, ensuring your safety, So all training exercise, drills and games are practical and based on real world situations. There are no ‘fancy’ moves seen in many martial arts and the movies.

In many martial arts the focus is on the instructor, they must be revered and called by names such as Sensei or Sifu. But in this system the most important person in the class is the student. It should not be confused with sports based martial arts which parents often seek to enroll their children in to build basic self defence and confidence skills. In general course participants must be over eighteen, however exceptions can be made in particular circumstances
Is it good for fitness
Classes can be a great workout. The training philosophy is that being fit is part of your self defence strategy. Classes generally begin with a ten to fifteen minutes warm up followed by lots of practical exercises and drills, classes usually finish with a high energy exercise designed to build the students ability to operate under pressure. All of this combines to make a Krav Maga class and ideal part of a fitness routine.

Martial arts are becoming increasingly popular in this current day and age. This is partly due to ever increasing crime rates and rising obesity levels. Martial arts are a great way not just in regards to self-defence but also with keeping fit. It is a great way for children to get involved with martial arts from an early age. There are many benefits associated with this such as keeping fit, being able to defend themselves against the school bully. Learning martial arts gives your children a new found confidence which can help them overcome many obstacles which they face in life at that early age such as shyness and even concentrating on their homework. It also enables them to learn a skill which they can carry on into their adult life.
The first step you need to take is to look for a style that will appear o your child. There are many to choose such as Judo, Karate, Kung Fu and many more. See what your child would have more interest in by taking him along to observe a few different classes. He may have a preference in a style which is more geared to high kicks and punching or he may prefer grappling and throwing. It’s not just for Karate for kids that is available you know.
One obstacle I personally came up against with my two daughters was the limited choice, but I do live in a rural area. If you live in a big city then the chances are there will be many to choose from and you can have a look at the various classes available to see where you think your child will best fit in. the smaller clubs and schools though in the rural areas do have their advantages though. They often are run by very experienced instructors with small class sizes which means more time is spent on each student resulting in higher ranking students in that style when compared to a large urban school in a big city.
It is paramount that you ensure the instructor is up to the job, you want to make sure your child gets the most out of it in terms of development and fun. Personally I find the large martial arts schools rather daunting for my kids. They often have anywhere between fifty and a hundred students, and in my opinion the children do not get the progress they deserve, whereas as mentioned the rural ones are the opposite.
I have martial arts to be hugely beneficial to my children. For instance it has helped my daughter to have the confidence to try new things. Before she started out in Karate she was a very shy girl and got spooked quite easily, but bow you cannot stop her, she has become something of a daredevil. The longer your child studies martial arts the more self-control they develop throughout their early life. There is so much more available than the usual Karate for kids that you hear parents talk about.…

The power of man has grown in every sphere, except over himself. ~Winston Churchill
Are you training for Mixed Martial Arts, UFC, or any of the hundreds of martial arts practiced in the world? Have you found your attacks to lack impact? Are your defenses crumpling under an onslaught? What allows a much smaller opponent to throw his larger adversary through the air as if he were merely a puppet? What enables a woman to defend herself against a bigger, taller, stronger man attacking her? One word: power. By the end of this article, you will know the three physical elements to increasing your power.
Power is the ability to do or act. Power is the capability of doing, or accomplishing something. Notice the word “strength” is absent. Many people make the mistake of assuming strength and power are synonymous. With the proper knowledge and training in three areas, a physically weaker person can overpower a stronger challenger.
Structure is the first element to cultivating incredible power, and it is the result of a strong connection to the ground. Imagine, for a moment, that you’re floating weightless in outer-space. How are you going to run? How are you going to move at all? Without some connection to a stable surface, or rockets, you’re not going anywhere. Back on earth, the best way to develop a strong connection to the ground is balanced posture. Head over shoulders, shoulders over hips, hips over feet. With this short checklist, it is easy to remind yourself throughout your day to reevaluate your posture. If any one of these elements is not in line with each other you will not be in balance, and your power will suffer.
Positioning is the second pillar of incredible power, and can be analyzed by three aspects: distance, rotation, and level. Distance is how far you are from your target. Rotation is circling around the other fighter. Level is if you’re above, below, or on equal footing. So positioning is the skillful application of all three elements to be in the right place at the right time. Different techniques are most effective at varying distances, so to maximize your power, use the right tools for where you are. Kicks for far away, punches at medium distance, knees and elbows for close combat, and grappling for the closest contact. Sometimes you need to rotate around to the back side of your opponent to be most effective. Maybe you need to change levels suddenly to increase your power. There is a saying, “If your throws lack power, get closer to the ground.” By sinking your body weight and lowering your center of gravity, you’re enlisting the basic forces of physics to help defeat your opponent.
Timing is the third pillar of power, and is typified by being early, late, or right on time. If you’ve ever heard of “beating someone to the punch,” that’s being early. Waiting to let the other guy put himself in a disadvantageous position before capitalizing on it, is being late. You can imagine timing like merging on to the highway with a car right next to you. You have two options: hit the gas and hope the other driver isn’t as fast, or you can drop back and pull in behind. At that point, no matter what the other driver does, you can respond to it with superior distance and positioning.
Now you can see how distance, positioning and timing all work together to generate power. If you’re at the right place, at the right time, and have the proper structure you can generate power others won’t be able to believe. During your MMA training, always be asking yourself if you’re using the three elements effectively and increase your power.…
Do you want to be a master ninja? I can certainly understand why. But, let me say that, after having that same goal myself for more than 20 years, it’s not as easy as you would think.
When I discuss this, you might think that I’m talking about how tough the training can be. And, on one level…I am.
But, I’m also talking about the fact that the art of ninjutsu, as a composite martial art and life mastery system, is made up of many more skills and study areas than practically anything else you could do. That’s not pride or bragging – it’s a fact.
And, the fact is that, with all of the study areas which make up ninja training, you will need more in the way of time, resources, and energy than you can currently imagine. And to do that, you have to make sure that both your body and mind are capable of engaging in the training over the long term.
I know. I know. You can do it. And I’m sure that you will give it all you’ve got. But, remember, not only have I heard that before – from both past students AND past training partners (which number in the hundreds) that no longer train – but I have walked the Path and have experienced those moments when I wasn’t sure if I could go on.
When exploring how you can make sure that your body and mind are up to the task, there are several questions that you should ask yourself. A few of these questions include:
1) What can you do to increase your body’s level of fitness, health, and energy level?
2) What do you do that inhibits your wellness, level of health, strength or flexibility?
3) Is your lifestyle – including your job, living environment, and daily activities – conducive to positive, energetic, and vibrant living, or are you surrounded by and subject yourself to negativity and the debilitating effects of distractions, confusion, and energy draining people and activities?
I can promise you that, to attain a respectible level of mastery in your ninjutsu martial arts training – if you are to become a ninja in every sense that the word implies, you will need…
1) More oxygen than you currently take in
2) More nutrients than you currently feed your body
3) More pure water than your body currently gets
4) More energy-stimulating exercise than you currently engage in, and…
5) More scientific exercises designed to open, focus, stimulate, relax, and control your mind
You will need a mentor – a teacher who can introduce you to, not only what you need, but also…
…everything within the world of ninjutsu that you didn’t even know existed!…
In part 1 of this article we discussed some of the negative aspects of martial arts teachers. I would prefer not to dwell upon this since there are so many good instructors out there. So, let’s continue with what makes a good instructor.
As I said, YOU CAN BE A MARTIAL ARTS INSTRUCTOR!
How do I know that? Well, given sufficient desire, motivation and effort there is no reason why this should not be possible.
In reality, not everyone is suited to this career. Some people just desire other things from life. But, I would be remiss if I did not mention the fact that many martial arts instructors also have other careers. Some are PhD’s, some are medical doctors, some are plumbers, and one famous instructor even pulled a rickshaw when times were hard. It has not always been possible to make a living at the martial arts.
What are some of the requirements?
Excellent training at a reputable school
Sufficient rank (at least in the black belt range)
Permission from your instructor and/or organization to start a school
What are some of the traits of a good teacher?
Nobility of character
A good work ethic
A desire to help others
A well-developed talent for teaching
Good business sense
These and other requirements are, I think, necessary for the success of a teacher of the martial arts.
You must bear in mind that teaching classes is not the only responsibility of the teacher. One of my teachers once said to me when I told him of my desire to be a teacher, “You can either be a good teacher or you can be a businessman – not both.”
This is one of the few pieces of advice I chose not to believe. In this day and age you must be both. Unless you are born with a sliver spoon in your mouth (rich) you will have to be responsible for all of the operations of your school. You will have to be a businessman as well as a teacher.
I will say here that while teaching the martial arts can lead to a comfortable and satisfying life-style, the profit motive cannot and should not be the primary motivation for the aspiring teacher. There is a lot of hard work to do even after the hard work of learning your art.
Starting and running a school can be tricky. You need patience and perseverance but the rewards can be great.…
Have you long been curious about the phenomenon of arts and crafts? If this is the case, then you are reading the perfect article. In the following article, you’ll learn what you need to know regarding arts and crafts.
There is a variety of supplies you can use for your projects. Paper goods that are generally discarded are great. Empty paper towel rolls are fun to decorate and craft with, too. You can also use newspapers or magazines. Come up with creativity ideas that you normally would not use with certain throwaway items.
Typically, crafting with kids gets messy. If you don’t like messes, use newspaper to cover the area. Markers and adhesives that are washable can also be considered.
If supplies are pricey in your area, start shopping at secondhand stores. Goodwill and similar shops have great things for creative artists. Whether you are looking for material or inspiration, a secondhand shop might have just what you need.
Allow your child’s creativity to determine how art projects turn out. Instead, let your child rely on his or her imagination and get creative. For instance, they might want to put an eye where the ear should be. The whole point is for them to be creative.
Organize your craft supplies. There are a number of ways to store supplies; find the one that is best for you. If you stay organized, your projects will run more smoothly. It’s also simpler to keep track of your inventory too.
After you lay out your mosaic pieces and grout them, the pieces will look very cloudy. Simply spray it with a product that cleans glass and then dry it thoroughly. It can be hard to get the mortar out but you don’t want powder to screw up the finish.
Children of all ages can enjoy arts and crafts. If you have a group of kids consider a project that they will enjoy. If you are fresh out of ideas, you can ask a friend for some or look for help online.
Look in your kitchen for craft materials. There are tons of gems out there to do in crafts. From jars to cans to aluminum foil, there’s lots available. You may even utilize items such as dried beans and pasta.
If you’re trying to pick up oil painting and you mess up, no worries! Simply paint over the mess up on the canvas. Oil is rather adaptable; adding on more paint doesn’t cause harm to the surface. Indeed, you may find that you achieve even greater depth of color.
Craft activities can provide great entertainment to a group of adults or children. It makes no difference how old the members of the group are, you can find projects for anyone. Look online to find projects for every age group.
You may have wondered why arts and crafts are so popular prior to reading the above piece. You can understand how this hobby can be all yours. Apply the guidance and start having fun with arts and crafts.…
